HB-Gang – Hanno Bruhn
After Hanno Bruhn was finally able to receive Radio Luxemburg under the most difficult circumstances and heard songs by and with Ray Charles, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, etc., his interest in Rock & Blues music was awakened.
At barely 18 years old, he picked up his guitar in the early 60s and set out to make a name for himself as a musician. With his newly formed band UNITED FOUR, he soon shared stages with renowned figures of the music scene like CREAM, YARDBIRDS, SMOKIE, and many others.
In the early 70s, his musical journey led him to Berlin, where he released his first self-titled LP with the band CURLY CURVE. This album also featured his first original songs, with lyrics penned by the US-Boy Tom Cunningham, who lived in Berlin.
Later, Hanno Bruhn played bass for artists such as CHUCK BERRY, toured the USA and Europe with MUNGO JERRY, and performed with GUITAR CRUSHER at various prominent blues festivals.
However, his desire to write and record his own blues songs remained unfulfilled. So, without further ado, he formed the HB-GANG with Chris Klöber and Lutz Krüger, dedicating himself to German-language blues-rock and performing in popular clubs from Berlin to Basel.
Unfortunately, little money could be made with such music, and apart from a few radio chart placements, major success eluded them. So, he decided to write songs for others who were more at home in the commercial sector. Since then, GOLD and PLATINUM awards underscore his successful work as a lyricist, composer, and producer.
Artists like CHRISTINA STÜRMER, TRUCK STOP, GEIER STURZFLUG, KARL DALL, and many others sang his lyrics and songs or hired him as a producer.
For about 40 years, Hanno Bruhn has worked as a lyricist for FRANK ZANDER, which resulted in the cult hit HIER KOMMT KURT and the Hertha Football Club anthem NUR NACH HAUSE. His long-standing collaboration with actor DIETHER KREBS earned him the number 1 hit ICH BIN DER MARTIN.
However, blues always remained close to his heart. In 2025, he reconnected with his American friends to release the album BLUES ON MY BACK. This album features 13 HB-GANG songs, now with English lyrics, written by TOM CUNNINGHAM, KENO MAPP, DAVID ANDERSEN, as well as KENNETH SUHANDRON and FLORIAN SAILER, thus bringing his musical journey full circle.
